Site Description

A small island of (predominantly Rhizophora) mangrove forest with a brackish water lake which is linked with the sea at very high tides. The island is surrounded by mudflats with large sandy mudflats at the north and south. Local residents report that the mangrove forest is a breeding ground for large waterbirds.
Principal vegetation: Mangrove forest: Rhizophora mucronata, R. apiculata, Bruguiera parviflora, B gymnorhiza and other species (Avicennia sp, Bruguiera cylindrica, etc). |

According to the local people the mangrove forest surrounding the lake is used as breeding area site by large waterbirds, such as the Milky Stork. The mudflat areas had a very low density of migratory waders (survey 1984) and seem not to be very important |
