Site Description |

Mountainous area dominated by Tambora Mountain, an old volcano. In the 6km wide caldera now a crater lake exists. The inner slopes are very steep and barren, the outer slopes are covered with primary forest, dominated by Duabanga molluccana. The south-eastern slope however, is covered with Cylindrica imperata. The rest of the area consists of a vast open area dissected by seasonally dry riverbeds. The priciple vegetation is Cylindrica imperata, and along the riverbeds gallery forest. |
