  Site Description
The total area of the site is 77,348.5ha, comprising 19,558.4 ha Bali Barat Wildlife Reserve, 6220 ha of coral reefs and marine waters, and 5,569 ha of primary mountain forest. The site includes Menjangan island which is a low-lying island with an altitude of a few metres, but several peaks over 500 m occur. Further inland of the island, Gunung Merbak rises to 1,138 m. The site is a rather dry area. The main wetland habitat consists of about 35km of beach, 6,220 ha of coral reefs, 300 ha of mangrove scrub/forest, 40 ha of seagrass beds. Most beaches are sandy. The other areas consist mainly of mangrove swamps and limestone rock. The mangrove has extensively been cut over and is in a rather degraded state. Near Gilimanuk, this exploitation still continues. Principal vegetation: Mangal communities include Rhizophora stylosa, Rhizophora apiculata, Sonneratia alba, Avicennia alba, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal, Aegiceras corniculatum, Excoecaria agallocha, Lummnitzera sp., Nypa fruticans. Coral reefs within the site are of fringing reef type and show varying degrees of development around the Park. Reefs are poorly developed within the shallow mangrove-line bays on the mainland where water clarity is reduced. The best developed reefs are around Menjangan island. On the south-east of the island, the reef is steep, while on the north-facing coast, the upper reef ismore rounded and there are shallow surge-channels on the outer reef flat. According to Polunin et al. in Moosa et al. 1997), 35 coral species have been recorded from this site.
  Site Location
Bali Barat National Park is located on the west of Bali island. The nearest town is Gilimanuk, the main harbour that gives access to Bali from Java island.
  Special Memmo
The site is well-known of its endemic bird Bali-starling. However, it is also known that the site is where coral reef occur.
