Site Description

Small sandy island with surrounding coral reefs. The island is about 800 ha.
A total of 92 species of corals from 54 genera have been reported for the Kassa island reefs.
Kassa island is uninhabied but is used as a base by fishermen, who may camp for several days in succession in order to salt and dry their catch. The island is a nesting site for turtles.
A patch reef and Babi island with its fringing reef, lie 4.5 km and 8 km of Kassa island respectively, but are outside the reserve boundary. |

Pulau Kassa is located on Piru bay, off the south-west coast of Seram and north of Ambon.
To get to the island:
- Ambon-Hitu about 1 hour travel by car
-Hiru-Piru-Kassa Island or Hitu-Kassa Island by boat (1-2 hours)
-Ambon-Tulehu or Liang-Kassa Island by speed boat (2.5-3 hours) |
