Site Description
A small site of local interest, of 500 ha peatswamp forest and 1500 ha heath Forest (Kerangas). It is a low - lying and fairly flat area. The reserve lies above ancient sedimentary rocks of Paleogene origin, which, because of their acid silicaceous nature, form door, agriculturally uninteresting, soils.
In the sandstone areas there are old gold-mining areas with a very typical vegetation dominated by Ploiarium alternifolium. Typical for these areas are the so-called "pagongs" or small ponds, created from the gold-mining activities. They are botanically interesting with Vanda hookeriana accompanied by Susum malaynum.
Principal vegetation: Ramin (Gonystylus spp.), Kayu Cina (Dacrydium sp.), Cemara (Casuarina nobilis), Obah (Eugenia sp.), Encaneng (Callophyllum sp.), Resak nasi (Dryobalanges?) and Renghas (Melanorhoea wallichii). |
